More Mess!!

A quick update on my creations since doing Finnabairs classes.... looks like I am hooked on this style for a bit, which is a good thing as I am using up all my bits and pieces in my stash!
Here is the page I did during her class:

And here is the very next page I did,..... a boy version!!

This style is soo much fun! It certainly suits my need to get in there and be messy, you should see all the awful clutter of bits that I dragged out to do this!

There you have it lots of clusters of "Stuff" all grunged up together to form a colour scheme that is all Boy!
Thanks for dropping in, hope to see you again soon! Hugs

I'm Inspired

Just thought I would share some fun I have been having with the one the only Finnabair!!!!! I took advantage of the fact she was touring Australia and signed up for 3 of her classes. I was as happy as a pig in pooh!!! I got so dirty inky and gluey(is that even a word???) and loved every minute of the experience. She was a wonderful inspiration and teacher, I was awestruck at first and a little shy as I have been admiring her work for so long, but she made everyone feel welcome as she let us loose on all her new products!!!

Here is what I came up with in my creative frenzy!!
This is the back of a canvas, just loved doing this one!

What do you think of my winged rocking horse?

This is the front cover of an art journal. So much paint on this one!!

And this is the back cover:

I also did a LO but have not taken a good photo of it as yet so I will save that till later! Just could not contain my excitement so I just had to show and tell!!!!
Of to play some more!!

CSI Challenge #61

Hi all,
I was cruising around the web for a little inspiration when I stumbled upon CSI. Has anyone else had a go at their challenges? Well I hadn't as I found it a bit of a brain strain with all the requirements, ..... my creative process is just not that organized!!!!
However, I fell in love with the colour scheme and just had to have a go. So after reading through, and working out how to actually enter (it is set up more like a forum rather than just using links) it really was not that hard once I got my head round it. Why not give it a go yourselves.

This is what they give you as prompts, very cool way of doing things:

Here is what I came up with......This is a Girlie page!
I know very rare around these parts!!!!
The sweet girls are my nieces with their beloved dogs. Such a special photo as one of those precious dogs Melba is no longer with us.

As I said I loved the colours and I so wanted to use some of the new releases from Scrap FX. That totally retro flower is loads of fun to play with and the stencil has so many bits to isolate, love that sort of versatility.

For the background I used texture paste to pick out the "bits" of the stencil I wanted to use. Then sprayed randomly (as always). That was not enough for me, so after it was all dry (well almost, very impatient) I grabbed the stencil again and sprayed in some flowers over the top of the paste areas, finally I was satisfied!

I treated the chippies with my favorite technique at the moment.... embossing. I used Lindy's Stamp Gang Powders.... you cannot beat them!
I have mixed the golds with some bronze to create a bit of depth, and the shine on those gold powders?!! Wow... look amazing.
( I loved them so much I went & placed another order with them,... bad girl!!!)

Then I just layered up and embellished with the usual suspects for me lately, Liquid Pearls, confetti, Stamps and punches.
I have to say I had a heap of fun completing the challenge. I did not think I would, so I think I highly recommend it. So if you need a little inspiration, take a visit and see what you think.
What challenge sites does everyone else do? I am in the mood to push myself out of my comfort zone. Would love to hear some feedback, but be warned Pink and Purple are my Kryptonite, that is just going too far!!! LOL
Thanks for visiting, Hugs,

Welcome to the ScrapFX Technique Hop!!!

Welcome Friends to the first stop in our Technique Hop.
I am starting with some very simple techniques that are my "Go To" staples for  ScrapFX chippies and stencils!!! The other amazing ladies will further inspire you, so be sure to check them all out and leave a comment back on the ScrapFX Blog to be in the running for that amazing major prize!!!!
So here goes........

As you all may or may not know, I am a Mum to 2 boys. Masculine pages are my comfort zone, however, my eldest is now 15, with his brother closely following at 12. So the cutesy stuff no longer cuts the mustard! So how to create for the pesky teen???? The answer..... be messy & grungy!!!!
Think "Graffiti" for the look that I think suits most.

I do know that it is a struggle at times to find the right look for a Teen (especially Boys) when a flower (have never been good at that) will just not work. So stay with me for a bit and maybe I can get the ball rolling and the mind ticking away for some totally teen embellishments and backgrounds!!
This is my first full blown tutorial so I apologise in advance if I am way too "Wordy"!

This is the page I am basing this tutorial on, I have used Scrap FX chippies and the awesome Urban Stencil.

Technique#1: Simple Stencil Background

To create the background I randomly sprayed mists with no particular pattern in mind.

This is the Urban Stencil,
very hard to get a great shot ....sorry!

Then with a fineliner I used components of the stencil to outline, I love this stencil for that particular reason, it looks great with any pastes or paint also..... but that will have to wait for another time!!

This gives the background some definition without overloading the page before you have even begun.... very simple right!!!!

Technique #2: Perfectly Imperfect Embossing!

I often go for a rustic textured look,  I don't use an embossing ink pad because I do not want it to have perfect coverage. So first step is to use a paint dabber and coat the letter with paint in a random manner, varying the thickness (that is why a dabber works well).
Whilst still wet, sprinkle with the embossing powder and tap off excess.
Heat as usual with a heat gun, you have yourself some great texture!

You will find that the powder sticks
on random spots of paint.
After heating you have
great texture to work with.
Then spray with the mists used in the background, you do not have to wait for the powder to cool, just fire away. As the ink dries it will pool for a great effect.
Use the Sprays whilst the
powder is cooling.
The pools of colour
catch in all the low spots
created by the embossing.
The letters are now ready to add to the page!

A Title is Born!
Technique#3: Grungy Embellishments (last one I promise then you can be off on your merry way)

To Grunge up chippies is not a perfect art, completely the opposite!
I just keep adding paint or sprays till I get the look I want, I really do not think about it.... but I did for this tutorial & it almost sent me over the edge! I never know what I will need until I am doing it.... not good for writing and taking shots for a step by step I can tell you....... see I am getting too wordy again! So here is what I came up with:

The supplies!
Base coat the chippies with white acrylic paint using a paint dabber (as before, I like the texture it creates).
Having a white base means that the
colour you add next will be more
vivid if you want a
muted tone skip this step!

I then dabbed some grey paint over the top in random spots. Use a heat gun to dry.

Then spray lightly with mists till you like the effect!

Spray the chippes as a group
so you get the random look
(and you don't waste product!)
Add a little more paint for a faded look.

Define the edges with a stamp pad to make them "pop" on the page.

In this step use a light touch remember less is more!
A final touch is to use a background stamp and Stazon ink randomly stamped on the chippies as they lay. Then a rough outline with a fineliner!

All done ready to attach to a page!!!!

So that is all from me "Phew" I hear you say, maybe I should have just stuck with the one technique but hey I was on a roll!!! Just a little over excited, sorry!

To thank you for visiting my happy place and for putting up with my ramblings, I have decided to add some candy here. So to be in the running for a little something all you have to do is add a comment below (to say you were here) and maybe become a Follower (if you are not already).

"Outdoor Fun"

We have had a very hot Summer here and my boys have just had such a great time, doing what they love!!! My boys love the surf, our youngest (featured here) has just purchased his first board with his own money and is sooo proud, I will feature that photo in due coarse!

With all this outside fun however, my scrapping has suffered considerably, for that I apologise! On the Up side I do have a heap of photos to last me a while.... be warned .... Summer could be a recurring theme here over the next few months!!!

This latest page features Scrap FX and Sawyers Place Tapes and Rounds:

I used some summer brights & barbed wire tape from Sawyers Place with the urban stencil from
Scrap FX to create a textured background.
I used a plastic bag & glimmer mist to add colour to the background and Viva decor crackle paste with the stencil and a bit of Gesso too. Had no idea what I was doing but it was fun just to play!

The wordlet and arrows are a new release that I treated with embossing powder and glimmer mist, I think the arrows could become a staple for me!!!
The stencil from Scrap FX has so many "Bits" that can be taken from it, you do not have to use it as a whole. I used the bar code and arrows section and positioned them to suit!

The  "Today" circle is a round from Sawyers Place that I have had for a while and struggled to use, as I do not use a lot of pre made embellishments that I cannot alter to suit, but I am starting to broaden my horizons!!!
The little dots are Liquid Pearls..... a little obsession I cannot seem to shake!

Love the Barcode!!

An old Brad from Kaiser that I have had in my stash suits the page perfectly!
I really have to leave it at that my friends so I can leave this computer and create some pages I have in my head.... a very busy head it is!!! So for now Goodbye, please stay tuned as I have a fun announcement and giveaway coming up that you all may be interested in at the end of the week! So be sure to pop back in now!!!!
