Colour Blast Embossed Layout

Hey everyone!
Back again with another Colour Blast layout!
I have included a step by step showing just how I created it,
I hope you enjoy it and feel inspired!
So here is the page:

Now lets get on with the process:
I have used chipboard as my base as I want to use a lot of wet medium and layers. Glue scraps of tissue onto the base then coat with Gesso. Rub back sections with a baby wipe to reveal parts of the printed tissue. Leave to dry.

Glue down strips of patterned paper where you are going to place the photo or main focus of the page. Add a few pieces of worn washi tape. Choose a colour scheme to suit your photo.

Add some scribble with a paint pen over the strips. Using a stencil and Snow White colour paste add some texture.

While the paste is still wet, sprinkle around embossing powder one colour of your scheme at a time. Heat to bring out that lovely shimmer and shine.

Use some of the shimmer sprays in the coordinating colours to add to the depth of colour.

Layer papers behind your photo ready to pull the page together. I then keep referring to this as I prepare my chippies and embellishments.

Time to treat your chippies! I always give a coat of gesso while I decide on colour that best suits the project. Here I ended up using a pigment ink pad to colour and then embossed the "LIFE" part of the title.

The surfers looked better left white but I added a little shading with more ink.

Now its time to put it all together. I glue down my photo and layers, then add the embellishments and some thread.

Once all is glued down I then added some elements that cross over the background as well as the layers, this pulls all the page elements together creating a cohesive composition. I have used a combination of sequins, and liquid pearls and the thread placement helps to do this too.

The page is now done, here are a few detailed shots:

Hi Everyone back with a quick share, a LO for Scrap FX this month.
New Scrap Fx Products used:
Sea Scene SMALL - Click Image to Close
Sea Scene Large

Seaweed Stencil

And here is my beachy page:

I gave all the chippies a coat of gesso then coloured with mica paints and sprays, and added a few texture spots with embossing enamel.

I created the background using crackle paste by Viva Decor and sprays to highlight the cracks formed.

I wanted to create a background that had lots of movement like a wave, hey I tried!!

I added some micro beads and sequins to create a little more interest.

There you have it my first project for the month!

"Masters Project 2"

Back again with another quick share of my Masters Projects. This time showing project number 2. The challenge was to use non conventional materials.
Now this one was the most fun and pushed me to give the Masters a try!!
It was so much fun to create and as a result is my most favourite project!
For my materials I used joint compound and newspaper in my background.
See if you can spot them.

I wanted to create an original "beachy" background using the chosen materials and paint starting with a 12x12 sheet of chipboard. With all the wet mediums I wanted to use, I knew I needed the extra rigid substrate.

I used the newspaper to create some texture and glimpses of print under the layers of paint and joint medium.

After spreading the joint medium in various places I waited till it started to dry (it changes colour from a muddy cream to an off white) then pressed an embossing folder just enough to create an impression. If you want to give this a try just ensure you wash the folder straight away so that the medium does not ruin it.
Stamps are also great for this technique.

Once all was dry I covered the lot with gesso to create a good base to play with. Then the fun part began, playing with paint to get the look I wanted.

I tried to highlight the raised pattern with a combination of Inca Gold and thick embossing powder by Stampendous.

I treated the chippy with the same paint and stamped a pattern with versa mark ink then embossed with the same embossing powder.

When it came to the photo I chose a few neutral papers to layer so that they did not "fight" with the background, and made the photo pop!
The title I coloured with black ink then used gold paint for the brackets.

So that is how I created my second masters project!

Hope you have enjoyed the process and it has inspired you to give it a try.
I am looking forward to giving my Christmas pressie a shot very soon.....a cute video camera! Process videos are a coming, may take some time for this tech challenged gal to get up to speed, but it will happen.....stay tuned everyone!
Next week project 3!

Finnabair Inspired Canvases

Apologies everyone have been a wee bit slack in getting back to this creative spot!
I have been busy though, finally completed 2 Finnabair inspired canvases (love her wonderful work) for my nieces' birthdays and they are now on their way to the US, crossing fingers they get there in one piece!
So I thought I would give a little peek of them finished.
The girls are twins but are such individuals so I wanted to make each canvas a little different.
So here they are:

I have used a chipboard phrase by ScrapFX for each, just love how fine they are and yet you can still put plenty of product on them. I have embossed both phrases with Lindys Stamp Gang embossing powders and they have come up a treat.

Here are some close up shots:

There are loads of bits and pieces as you can see, some are metal and plastic and if you look closely there are some ScrapFX goodies in amongst it too.

So that is about it for me for the time being,
till next time,
take care all,
